This a fully machined set of aluminum front and rear housings designed to be a drop in fit for Freeplay Tech's PCB.  Their board uses the CM3 Raspberry Pi.

Features

  • Default Slim design. The housing is a 3 piece design that uses a flat rear panel.  This rear panel can be aluminum, clear acrylic or black acrylic are available options.
  • Full screen - This housing allows the screen to drop in, and use the full screen size
  • This is for the front and intermediate housing only.  The rear panel, buttons/D-pad and other parts are now purchased separately.

Other items you will need:

  • Freeplay CM3
  • Replacement plastic shoulder buttons available as a set.  You will only need the top trigger buttons
  • Replacement conductive button silicone.  You'll only need the D-pad silicone.
  • A custom glass lens - This is a custom boxypixel lens that has a black boarder sized for full screen viewing.
  • Buttons - The A,B,X,Y buttons and the directional keypad are machined aluminum and available for purchase.  Any plastic game boy advance D-pad can be used.  HOWEVER the A,B,X,Y buttons are custom to this shell.  You can purchase them here, or download and print 3D printed buttons I have uploaded.
  • The rear flat panel can be purchased as sheet metal, or acrylic.

Notes:

1. Freeplay allows a few different configurations for buttons on their boards.  In order to use these boxy pixel shells you must use the Freeplay silicone "nipple" type switches for the A,B,X and Y buttons. (See sample PCB in images)

2. By default, this slim design does not fit the stock heatsink that comes with the Freeplay CM3 Kit.  It also does not accommodate the rear buttons or fan that come with their L2/R2 Add-on board.  However, these Boxy Pixel housings are modular and built so that you can simply remove rear flat panel and design a rear piece to suit your custom needs.  We will release additional add on modules soon.

3.  If raw aluminum is purchased, it will come as is from machining.  Some cleaning may be needed.  Polishing compound can be achieved fairly easily.  These are sold to those that would like to polish, paint, or finish on their own.

4.  This housing may fit the freeplay zero if your PCB board has 4 rubber nipple type buttons.   I cannot offer support for fitting if you chose to do so.
